Crank shaft

Post by Mark Brien »

Panic. The block on the dart that I am restoring was frost cracked
I got another engine and when reassembling I wanted to use the original crank. I then notice the crank is different at the flywheel end with a different oil throw size in that it is half the size
I am now going to have to grind the crank.
Is this the only problem with this or will I encounter more?

Dear Mark
What type of engine is your replacement, SP or saloon?
The Dart crank will only fit a Dart block; blocks and cranks are NOT interchangeable between SP's and the saloon.
They must always be paired together.
Apart from this there is the possibility of the crankshaft bore for the gearbox primary shaft being different as well; early saloon engines were of a larger diameter to later ones.

Kent
