Total loss lubrication is in the classic car genes. You drive a classic car, you get oil on your drive, simples, and think yourself lucky you only have spots rather than puddles!silverdart wrote:What I would really like, is to be able to leave my car on my driveway and not have any oil spots.
Has anyone really achieved this? permanently?
Dave.

Re: Dart versus V8250 engine
My SP has leaked for all the ten years I have had it, and as the engine runs so sweetly I have invested in a drip tray, much less costly than an engine rebuild, which will of course in time be necessary.
On the other hand the V8 250 has been with me for seven years, it has a Russ Carpenter rebuilt engine with all the mods, it has never lost a drop of oil and is a dry as the day I got the car home, I have never had to top up the oil between oil changes.
The Russ Carpenter mods in my experience are bullet proof.

Thanks Syd,
That's the sort of answer I was hoping for.
Seems like I need to think seriously about making a modification a la Russ Carpenter.
Regards Dave.

Re: Dart versus V8250 engine
As you perhaps know Dave, Russ Carpenter posts advice on this forum from time to time and advertises in the magazine.
I gather he has a long waiting list for engine rebuilds but will advise on his mods and quote for and carry out mods on the engine parts for you if you want to do an engine rebuild yourself.
My V8 250 engine was done by Russ about ten years ago at a cost of around £3,500 for the chap I bought the car off. I understand that Russ charges quite a bit more for the same job today, but as I said the engine is a dry as a bone with not the slightest oil leak from anywhere.

Re: Dart versus V8250 engine
Thanks for the info. Syd.
I do all my own mechanical repairs and fortunately have access to horizontal boring etc.
I do not think the mod. is very complicated and I believe split lip oil seals are readily available.
The biggest fag is the removal and strip down of the engine.
Perhaps sometime in the future I will take the plunge.
