I am about planning to remove the sump on a spare engine to clean and check the bottom end, I am aware that the two end cork gaskets are available to purchase, but speaking to Barratts about the gaskets for each side on the flat surfaces they do not list them. Any suggestions apart from making them?

David Manners can supply rubber gaskets which are easier to fit as they have a natural curve.
You will have to cut one to fit.
Hope this helps, Chris

Hi Chris,
I appreciate that the curved end gaskets are available from David Manners, but my query was for the gaskets each side of the sump/crankcase.
I can remember you used to be able to buy a "bottom end" set of gaskets for many vehicles, alas no more!

Hi Bill
The sump is a face fit no gasket, only each end.
I use Wellseal jointing compound, its a well known quality non Hardening compound.
Use a brush its just like treacle.
