SP250 - What is used to seal the GRP before spaying?

Post by Magnor »

Hi, I am trying to get my SP250 body sprayed. I am confused as to what product is used to 'seal' the body before painting or using any solvents. Various body shops seem to call the product 'spray gel coat' or 'epoxy spray coat' or 'polyester spray filler'. Posts on this forum seem to refer to various sprays but some are not available in the UK. Are they all the same? What is the best product to use? I know from this forum that the body needs this coat to avoid micro blisters but before I get it done I really want to be sure the body shop are using correct product / procedure.
Thanks

Sadly many of the Guru's who could help you are still stuck on the old forum, but you might find a personal email to Steve who has posted his restoration details on this new forum may be able to help.

Most primer stoppers are suitable, however with various paint coverings these days one should take the advice of the supplier of the top and undercoat paint so as to reduce reactions. GRP in styrene form is fairly non reactive but you do need a keying primer. I have just taken professional advice, any two pack filler primer.

Hi Folks, I had the body shop apply Evercoat Slick Sand before primer and paint. That was two years ago, very happy with the result. http://www.evercoat.com/product-detail/ ... 100708/us/

Sourcing it through their European partner took a while but the paintshop also liked the product.
