Two abandoned SP250s
Re: Two abandoned SP250s
A quick wipe down and they'll be fine. Seriously though, they don't look too far gone from what you can see in the pics

Which Facebook page? Someone should tell Laurence Jones or Barry Thorne (Barry lives in Surrey) and someone should go and look at them.

If you look up Unloved cars that should take you to the page which shows the white SP

Could you please call me as I am certainly interested. 07931 357630 thanks Eric
Re: Two abandoned SP250s
Neither are for sale.
The Facebook page is a closed group "Unloved Classic & Retro Cars" which features lots of pictures of abandoned cars from all over the place. Rules of the group are "no locations and no selling or asking if they are for sale". Infringers are kicked out of the group pretty sharpish.

That doesn't seem too helpful if we are into saving cars and getting them back onto the road.

Re: Two abandoned SP250s
To a certain extent I agree Simon but the point is to avoid owners being pestered or from having bits stolen. The page is simply there for people to share pictures of wrecks etc. that they come across. It doesn't support sales or nagging for sale. That's the decision of the page owner. Even then it doesn't always work. A Jensen C-V8 was recently pictured on the same Facebook page at the same location as the white SP250 and since then someone else has been there and caused damage. Whether they saw it on the Facebook page or coincidentally found the car is of course not known.
For the white SP250, I know it is located in Surrey somewhere near Bletchingley from other contacts. The owner was offered £20k in cash a few days ago and refused it. There are literally dozens of cars at the site including 2 Jensens, a Ginetta, the SP250, several Sunbeam Alpines including one Harrington, several other Rootes cars (Super Minxes, Rapiers etc), several Triumphs Heralds, Austin Healey Sprite (2 or 3), several VW Beetles and that is before we start on things like Escorts, Clios and much more. He is a hoarder and won't sell believing he will restore them "one day". Of course, he doesn't have the money, time or skills to do it. He also has hyper-inflated views of the values of these wrecks.
The land they're on has been sold and a recovery guy is shifting the cars. Fortunately he is sympathetic with the more interesting classics and they are being moved to a better location, where I don't know. The picture was taken after the car had been removed from the undergrowth which literally had grown completely over the car. Some of the cars on the site are really worthless and too far gone to be restored and being passed on for banger racing.
The black one was photographed in a private yard while the guy who took the picture was doing some work at the site.

Re: Two abandoned SP250s
Laurence Jones says
I have searched my records for a black car and following that it might be HLD as an early 1964 London issue (none shown on record for HLD) I search again all black SPs from mid 1963 to the end of production and the only one to fit is chassis number 104271 sold through Coombs & Son (Guildford) Ltd., against which there isn't any registration details or information whosoever i.e Barry's records etc.
Doesn't mean to say that is the correct chassis number. Would love to know the details of both - hopefully they will come out of the woodwork and be restored.
Re: Two abandoned SP250s
I found the black one this morning. It's still in the same location not far from me inside a locked compound. There's a notice on the gate from the leaseholder restricting access and requiring vehicles to be removed before 28th September 2017, quite what that means I'm not sure but the land is in a highly desirable area so possibly is planned to be redeveloped.
The registration it is 957 HLD, registered February 1964, supposedly manufactured 1964, currently on SORN. MOT expired 14th September 2009, looks like it's been there at least 8 years.
