Oil filter housing removal
Oil filter housing removal
Ok here’s another question. As I mentioned, I’m doing the first full service on my SP 250. Most things are fairly straightforward, and I managed to get the oil filter housing off and a new filter in, but is there some trick to make this a lot easier? Had to run it up on the lift and I could’ve used about four hands to get it off. Is there a spin on filter conversion available for an SP 250?

Re: Oil filter housing removal
Yes Peter, Flexolite is the maker to convert to a spin off filter.
They also do a remote filter to relocate to the top of the engine bay if I rember correctly.
regards
John

Re: Oil filter housing removal
One of the most convenient places to position a remote filter head is where the regulator normally sits on the offside of the engine bay. This is most straightforward if you fit an alternator and no longer require the regulator. Alternatively the regulator can be positioned on the shelf above the driver's footwell to retain the dynamo.
With the filter conversion head in place of the regulator it is only a relatively short distance from the engine oil filter body to keep the hoses short, and the filter is easy to fit and remove there without interfering with other items. It is also convenient if you wish to fit an oil cooler using a thermostatic take-off plate. All the bits are available from Flexolite.
In addition with the correct drill and tap it is possible to fit a low oil pressure warning switch and an oil temperature sensor to the top of the filter head, if you feel that such things are necessary/wise/helpful.
Another point of interest, Flexolite sell affordable sets of wire wheel balancing cones (I have no financial interest in the company).
Regards
Geoff
