Is an expansion tank made for the V8 250. If so where are they available.

I was unable to find any such tank.

I ended up using the expansion tank from a Triumph Stag (right shape, bottom entry point, top end overflow & a pressure cap), mounting it on the battery retaining bracket, & putting a sealing cap on the V8 250 header tank. The overflow from the header tank feeds the bottom input of the Stag tank, the upper connector of the Stag tank is the overflow which I feed down the bulkhead.

It works superbly! If I fill the header tank to the brim, when the engine is hot around 1 1/2 pints of coolant flows into the Stag tank. As the engine cools the vacuum sucks the coolant back.

If you're interested I have some photos of the mod I can post.

Pete Russell heard about what I had done; he's done the same & it also works well.

Robert Grinter used a tank from an Austin Allegro apparently.

I spoke to Brian Grinter yesterday and he recommended using header tank from Ford Escort

I have found a Triumph one for sale, stainless steel and brand new £129.99 can you tell me how and where you fitted it please.

there are a myriad of options for sourcing an 'add on' expansion tank .. I generally use the tubular polished stainless steel ones that are sold on ebay.. very well made and inexpensive..($15-22) if one were to find a 'fault', it would be the the hose connections on these talks are only 1/4" wide, hence they require 1/4" inner diameter tubing.. and the rad overflow pipe is approx +/- 5/16" ..easy to resolve with a plumbers small dia tapered pipe expander ( or a tapered tool such as a round bodied center punch inserted into the hose to expand it sufficiently to fit) WD40 helps to lube the rubber sufficiently to help it slip over a tight pipe..

The Stag tank price sounds a bit high to me, I asked around the Triumph stag user group forum & got my hands on a second hand one for 25 quid.

Dennis, here's the promised picture, I took it during the trial fitting. The orange arrows that I've added show the key aspects: the sealing cap on the header tank, the routing of the overflow pipe which goes under the brake reservoir to feed the lower connector on the Stag tank , the pressure cap fitted to the Stag tank & the overflow tube from the Stag tank. The blue behind the Stag tank is a bracket I made up from thin sheet steel to mount the tank on the battery retaining bracket. I found mounting it this way gave the best performance to return fluid to the Daimler header tank as it cooled.

You can do it very simply and cheaply by using a plastic drinks bottle or other suitable container.
Fit the radiator overflow pipe into the bottle right to the bottom and put in an inch or so of coolant. You need to change the radiator cap to a double sealed one i.e. one with a rubber seal just below the lid and the other in the usual place.
Fill rad with coolant, place cap and that's it.

Just fitted one like Ian recommends to the P6 - works perfectly.

Used an empty windscreen washer additive bottle

Also did my green bit by recycling the empty!
