Practical Classics February 2018 issue

Post by mr boylett »

Mr boylett,
Hi all , I have just had the latest Practical classics delivered and it has a four page illustrated service guide for SP 250. Should be in shops Dec 27 onwards for those of you who are interested.
Merry Christmas ,
Terry.

Pretty basic stuff for most Dart owners , the piece on Valve Clearance didn't mention that this engine is one of the most awkward to adjust ,
No screwdriver slots , some locking nuts too close to the spark plug tubes to get a ring spanner on , the angle makes it difficult to stop the feelers falling out , in fact a three handed job . Had brainwave last time I did mine " A magnetic clock gauge DTI ". That failed nothing to stick to all Aluminium .
There is an interesting photo of an E type in the "THE RUST IN PEACE" This would be a challenging restoration project foe someone.

Interestingly in the "Ask The Experts" section of the December 2017 issue of Practical Classics an SP250 owner asked about hot starting problems.
The coil and connections were explained which was OK but then advice was given to check the pressure delivered from the mechanical fuel pump and to check the rubber diaphragm in it in case fuel was being pumped into the sump!
Not normally a common cause for poor hot starting in an SP

Ian

I suspect that the latter advice may come from the same source which on ebay advocates the purchase of a suction dent puller for the SP250.

They never give up!

Cheers
