Daimler V8 250 Brakes

Post by Ronniet55 »

Hi, I need to get calipers etc looked at as car as been off road since 1990. Can anybody recommend a company that would strip, inspect & advise as to condition please?
regards
Ron

Past Parts Ltd would certainly strip and overhaul your calipers. If you just wanted them taken apart and examined then I imagine that might be almost as expensive.

you can save time and money by upgrading to modern calipers up front..the 'coopercraft' offering best value in UK ..In USA the wilwood conversion likely more practical ..though not quite as 'clean' and practical as it comes with adaptor brackets.. :- if you add up the price of 4 cylinders,(less then in the past, they now run around 110 each) bridge pipes, flex hoses, pads and hardware.... plus time spent its a 'no brainer' plus you gain much better braking and lower wear rates due to larger surface area of modern pads..plus you eliminate a lot of parts..they simply bolt right on with no modifications. .. you can also simplify further by cutting the +/- 3/8" off caliper end of flex hose, adding copper washer and threading it straight into caliper, thus eliminating anther pipe assembly (check for clearance of hose to all moving parts though.. Ive only done this combined with a rack and pinion steering conversion) The rears remain an issue and its simpler to just rebuild the assemblies with new cylinders.. the rear calipers are a little more costly than those at front.. dont forget servo as well.. and check vacuum tank and lines.. BTW:- the aftermarket 'pattern' servos have some fitment issues :- important to get it as far to the rear of the housing as is possible otherwise there are commonly clearance issues with radiator shroud.. if in doubt and time is critical..buy an exchange rebuilt original servo.. about an hour less in fitting time..
