Sp250 Windscreen rack & gearbox grease
I have dismantled the windscreen wiper rack and gearboxes. The old grease in these components looks very dark and appears more like wax than grease. Does anyone know what grease should be used when re-assembling these components please?
Re: Sp250 Windscreen rack & gearbox grease
No I don't know exactly.
I can tell you though that grease is basically oil retained within wax. With age the oil separates and you are left with the wax hence the dark waxy appearance.
I would guess that anything from 00 to number 2 grease would be OK.

Like Colin, I do not know exactly, but in the past I have used white lithium grease for this sort of job - it is the type often specified for water pumps etc

Just a note on reassembly. You can rotate both wheelbox gears and the rack though 180° from the original position to use the unworn areas. This should restore wiper sweep to the original angle.
I tried this, but someone had done it previously so I bought new boxes and rack from BT.
I used Castrol LM grease.
