reply to Stephen Carter;- the firestone F560s give good grip and ride quality..and they balance well too, with minimum to no weights required on most rims..indicating good quality in the construction. But they tend to be short lived compared to Vredestien and others ( I average +/- 30-35k miles out of them on my Riley) those sold here in USA are made in the Firestone plant in Mexico and the rubber compound is on the soft side.. In the past, Iv'e clocked in excess of 90k miles out of the old Michelin XZX before they needed replacement.XAS have similar life too.

There is always a compromise with tyres on a classic between cost, ride comfort, handling and wear rate, mainly because of the usually low annual miles covered, as has been pointed out here it is very wise to change tyres at 10 years regardless.

Most of us are always well within 30k at the 10 year mark and unlikely to wear a set of tyres out before they reach their age limit.
