tuning v8

Post by daimlersteve »

Interesting stuff--- the new tubular manifold is happier with less inital advance at idle ( down to 6deg. ) With the vac.advance disconnected.
the centrifugal max. advance goes out to 33deg. and with vac. connected another 12+ degrees --- due to being without load ,therefor only a wisp of throttle opening -- not real life senario . sounds georgeous yet revs like a 1200 nissan!

more fun stuff !

Steve, do you have any pictures you can post of your new tubular manifold setup?

Would be interested in seeing what you have done.

Will do,
basically using the centre section of a standard manifold ,modifying the four outlets ,then making up the runners in 1 1/4 " stainless tube. Not a job for the inexperienced in tig and small pipework as it took several days to make up then machine the flanges on the mill .
Its not a job that you take on to charge for but quite satisfying as a completed project just to get the most out of two SU s. Its a pity its too complicated to cast up replicas of the finished item.
I'm waiting for the current owner of a past owned SP to get it on a Dyno , then i will piggy back the next spot just to see the difference on the same Dyno.
Hey , is Digby Smith still using his SP in Melbourne ?

Hi
Both the manifolds on Margaret's money pit, I mean SP, broke at the flanges and I could not get a replacement pair and did not fancy having them welded as having spent a lot of my career repairing cast iron pipes I think at best it is a temporary measure. Geof Douglas put me on to Stainless Exhaust Specialists Unit 9 County Estate Outhwaite Sutton in Ashfield Nottingham England NG17 2PD Their web site is www.stainless-exhaust.com. and their e-mail address is sales@stainless-exhaust.com
