V8 Saloon clutch operating lever

Post by Alpine Daimler »

Yesterday I completed the renewal of the clutch master cylinder which being the correct one no longer comes into allbeit light contact with the heater box, renewal of the flex hose and overhaul and seal replacement of slave cylinder seal. On mine there is a return spring fitted to the clutch operating lever between where a split pin should be fitted to the clevis pin and under one of the nuts securing the slave cylinder. I can find no mention of this in the manual and I would have thought clutch diaphragm spring would have the same effect, perhaps this spring is fitted to eliminate any "chattering" of the operating lever or any movement between it and the operating rod in slave cylinder when the clutch is not being operated? It looks wrong so I tend to think it is, any thoughts?
I attach a photo for clarity.
PS : The missing bolt in bell housing has long since been fitted!
Regards
Rob c.

Hi Rob, this is the spring that should be there, https://www.sngbarratt.com/uk/#!/Englis ... 20CONTROLS, your spring looks too long, but some cars esp the mk2 jags had various types of slave cylinder fitted, my mk2 jag has an aluminium type with no return spring, and some were described as hydrostatic and hydraulic, some were fitted with internal circlips and some without. the spring is in the jag mk2 manual and not in the V8 one, although my mk2 has not suffered in any way by not having a spring fitted. hope this helps. Hi my manual OD has a spring as in the parts diagram. It is hard to tell from the photo but the length and size looks OK. If it works leave it as is.
