Nick has it right here, a jack under the spring pan wont load the car at ride ht. ( any support needs to be right out at the hub line.)

If you are using the Gunson and have wire wheels make sure the car is level and take off the knock-ons.
The Gunson fits directly onto the end of the hub so no need to remove the wheels to gain access to the disk.

Ian, thanks for that which worked well and confirmed my original measurement on the discs. The floor showed level as suggested that it might not be by Nick.
Now to make up some shims, I have found some 1mm galvanised sheet so hopefully that will do.
