Hi Guys.

V8 saloon - 1964

When removing the exhaust innodeter to remove the auto gearbox for reconditioning a small crack in the exhaust was noticed. Can the exhaust manifold be removed from below ie without lifting the engine?
Seems tight.

The gearbox works brilliantly again though!

Best
Mark

And putting the typo aside, might you know the answer to my question, Christopher?

The left hand exhaust will come off and with the rocker cover off it will come up out of the top. the right hand is an other matter that cannot come past the steering column so head off

Your "typo" also threw me. Perhaps an apology to Chris might help. :D
Better still please use a spollchucker

Whatever you have got the unquestionably definitive answer

Thank you Russ. (BTA is still going strong some 18 years since you rebuilt it’s engine!)

And Chris, perhaps my reply to you was a little acerbic. Apologies. Mark

No need to apologise - I was genuinely puzzled, and I am glad Russ has given the definitive answer, because I looked at my installation photographs and could not provide an answer

question answered definitively by Russ.. my question is regarding the crack in your manifold ... where is it and is there an exhaust leak ?
I often come across cracks where one of the 4 studs to connect downpipe threaded into manifold..which makes the stud somewhat loose, but it does not seem to cause any major problems OR leaks .. I'm sure if run with a burned exhaust valve for a long period the heat generated can cause the manifold to crack ..very common issue with US V8s.. and the later US spec MGB's..
