Sidelamp LED's

Post by Bud »

Has anyone come up with an LED replacement bulb for the SP's front Side Lights?
The 1156 & 1157 are available in LED form and I found an interesting comparison online here,

Russ Carpenters son offered front sidelight LED's for the V8 saloon a couple of years ago on e-bay.

I bought and fitted 2 and they make these tiny sidelights look like a bright star!

What sort of bulb do the SP250 sidelights take?

I have recently also fitted LED's to the front sidelights of my Triumph Stag.

Whilst I would also like to replace the stop/tail lights on both cars with LED's I am told that whist the Tail Light is brighter the Stop Light is not differentiated brighter enough to attract the attention of the driver behind!

I changed all the lights apart from the headlights on my SP and I used this company http://www.dynamoregulatorconversions.c ... ds-etc.php
The stop/side lights are a vast improvement on the originals. Changing the indicator lamps together with the indicator unit means the lights continue to flash when having to be stationary when before they would slow down.

Howard, I'd be interested in getting hold of a couple of those saloon sidelight LED's. Can you post details please?

Sorry to partly hijack this thread.
Best wishes, Dave B

They are single pin 6 w 12 v ball shaped glass "typical torch like" bulbs.
The link I put on shows the differing light properties of several types of LED's

The front side light bulbs I have are coded 12v BA9S NEW DIFF and my car is now negative polarity.

This chap has an excellent selection
http://www.bettercarlighting.co.uk/

His website is somewhat chaotic, rather like an online jumble sale, but persist.
I fitted his bi-colour white/orange LEDs to the white side/flasher lamps in my Rambler, what a difference.

Just got in the two samples of LED's I suggested. And there is no comparison to the standard torch light bulb and the newer LED's. LED's provide light whereas the std bulb provides glow and ambiance. But the 4 led bulb is by far the better of the two LED's.

Bright white vs candle glow. For the $2.00 per no doubt a major improvement in visibility and now that they are mass producing these lamps as a complete unit as well as the seat gasket from Triumph and India etc. you can replace your deteriorated rubber seat without fear of destroying the original.
