RADIATOR OIL PIPES - THREAD SIZE ??

Post by classiclife »

Hello,

At some stage I will need to remove the radiator on my auto V8-250 saloon.

With regard to the 2x transmission oil pipes connecting at the bottom of the radiator, what is the thread size in order that I can blank the radiator outlets and the two pipes, please ??

Further to that, are there any other proven methods to seal the relevant outlets if the above is not a favoured method ??

Thank you in advance.

Best wishes.

they are standard pipe thread..(1/4" I believe.. perhaps someone else can confirm ?) as used on most hydraulic fittings and often fuel lines.. given that the transmission oil cooler in radiator is a 'separate' circuit.. if not in use they can be left uncapped.. coolant wont leak out, if that is you concern..

Hi
I might be putting 2&2 together and making 5 put the Autobox cooler is an integral part of the transmission system and it would unwise to remove it permanently.
If I have the wrong end of the stick sorry
Regards

Colin

Hello Colin,

5 is not a bad number and no apology required !!

No, I'm not disconnecting permanently. Just removing the rad for a short while so I can carry out some work and did not want transmission fluid flowing out of the uncapped rad connections plus the uncapped pipes from the Autobox.

tjt77 - thanks for the size suggestion.

Regards.
