BTW.. if you do take the route of modern front calipers, its wise to upgrade rears as well..the original 1 1/2" rear dunlop calipers have limited supply and tend to be costly ..the slightly larger one's fitted to Etype and rover 200O are often easier to source and less money.. and can be used if you fit larger fonts.. you can also fit the whole caliper assy from an early XJ6 to improve things further at the rear (but not with std original 2 1/8" fronts.. you need the 4 piston type to keep it balanced) .

I used the grease gun method and it work amazingly !! the thread on the grease gun even matched the caliper housing . Nothing else was moving the stuck piston including compressed air !

I can recommend the Coopercraft 4 piston callipers. I fitted them to my XK150 and it transformed the braking and safety feeling.

RE jacking pistons , it pays to fill the gap between with packers so theres only 3 mm of clearance .
