Thank you for all your inputs.
My suspicion about the different appearance of the centre support area proved correct.

This is the garage’s story.... Agreed was a good 1.5” higher at n/s rear. Said reason was the an old repair to the chassis around the o/ s centre spring support (think done 30 years ago) had been done incorrectly. Had tried to correct this and hoped would “settle”. There is a nice neat new repair to the area.
Inaksed if that was he case why did BTA sit perfectly level before their work? Waffle.

My suspicion is their repair lowered the upper part of the chassis.

What's the next step then, Mark, or is it a case of just putting up with it ??

Regards.

Too late for you Mark and you have my sympathy.

Your situation highlights how important it is to look after the spring mounting points and rear floors on all V8's, regularly inspect them for rust and keep them protected. (I have used liberal quantities of Waxoil)

The repair is not easy and requires an expert who knows what they are doing to get them right. Repair panels are available but fitting them needs a great deal of care and expertise.

These mountings are in a very vulnerable place and the design invites rust in a 50 year old car.

Hope you can get this sorted Mark. Syd

given what you have done so far and symptoms, sounds most likely like a mis matched ( different ride height) pair of springs...
As is suggested above :- they are in fact interchangeable side to side . swapping them over will provide a definative answer... BTW standard (non spring assist) shock absorbers do not effect ride height ..
