Rocker shaft spring/washer assembly

Hello all

Anyone here have a good quality exploded view of the rocker shaft components?

The drawing in my workshop manual is unclear.

I have removed the heads and sent to Carpenters for overhaul, heads as expected condition-wise and pistons/liners appear re-usable, engine ran well before so was I was not expecting to see too many grave problems once heads were off, phew!

Someone has clearly been here before me, light screwdriver marks under rocker pedestals etc which appear to be in correct position but the washer/spring position seems to be, well, wrong at one place and I would like to confirm correct assembly, 1 washer at either end of every spring?

Regards

Rob C.

Thank you Nick, very helpful, I didn't think it should look like this in the picture below!
Now, where can I get a replacement washer from? I doubt my local ironmonger has one.

Hello Rob,

The washer you have identified is part number 430412 - a total of 48x required for the rocker shaft assemblies.

From the photo it looks copper in colour, but I doubt that should be the case - I assume it is a trick of the light and I would think the washer should be steel.

These washers are located between the rockers and springs PLUS the rockers and brackets, hence the number required. I doubt you will be able to secure a new washer via the usual suspects DMG or SNG etc.

I am certain you must be able to obtain such from a local machine shop / enginnering outlet at home.

Hope the above assists ??

Good luck.

Richard.

if you cannot get any from the likes of David Manners and you can wait until Andrew has done your heads I'm sure I can find you some

Reply to Richard.. yes these parts are steel.. often they are copper plated though, including the rocker arms themselves..likely the orig intent of that copper 'flash coat'(its very thin) was to guard against corrosion...

Thanks to all for your contributions.
Richard : Yes 48 required only 47 correct ones present plus that too large copper one I have shown, somebody obviously lost one last time.
Russ : Very kind of you, maybe Andrew can place one with the heads for me when I perhaps can pick them up if ready at the end of May on return journey from NW Scotland to Munich....it can't be much of a detour in the grand scheme of things of the journey!!
Regards to you all
