Hello.

Looking for some advice please.

Can I confirm that the BMC is identical for the manual & automatic V8-250 saloon, and as such that it can be swapped between manual & auto pedal boxes ?? In this particular case the question is focusing on a 1968 model.

Many thanks.

Richard.

Folks,

I have ascertained that, YES, the brake master cylinder is the same be it for an auto or manual transmission and as such can be swapped between the two set-ups.

Best wishes.

Richard.

whilst its the same part..there were 'modifications' over the years as manufacturers changed..(brake system originally made by dunlop..later superseded by girling..with a 'cross over' mix of dunlop wheel cylinders and Girling master cylinder and servo) one issue is length of push rod was longer on later replacement brake master cylinders and there was a corresponding 'fitting kit' supplied that came with an alloy spacer block and longer mounting studs to compensate for a longer push rod .. clutch master cylinders were same supplier throughout production ( lockeed ) but used a different part for LHD and RHD ( brake master same for either side) due to its proximity to the heater box requiring different angle for the reservoir. I believe the pedal boxes are same for RHD/ LHD.. some auto cars have same pedal assy as manual cars, but they are bridged by a single metal piece that one puts the foot on, instead of two separate pads. others came with the clutch pedal removed.

Hello tjt77,

Many thanks for the additional info and very useful to know.

As you know, via other correspondence, I was fortunate enough to pick-up 2x RHD pedal box assemblies at the Jaguar Spares Day last weekend - a decent show with plenty of sellers with useful bits & bobs. The SNG Barratt trade stand very kindly confirmed the clutch and brake pedals as being RHD; albeit both boxes have different part numbers for their respective pedals, both box set-ups are the same. I am still trying to figure that one out !!!

One of the pedal boxes I purchased does indeed have the spacer you mentioned, which will be necessary as you say. I was unaware of the requirement initially and glad I did my homework prior to visiting the show !!

Couple of photos attached, which may be of interest for others concerning the above. Of note you can see the 2x boxes with and without the spacer.

Regards.

Richard.
