Paint

Post by Flinty »

A previous owner of my SP painted the underside of the wings with a body coloured { Ivory} paint.
It is flaking off in places and I would like to re coat it.
Can anyone tell me what type of paint I should use and what preparation would be required.
I hope to brush the paint on.

Steve.

Hello Steve,

First job is to completely remove all the old paint, down to bare metal - not just that flaking bits.

Once you have done this, I would use U-Pol Raptor, it is a light years ahead product AND it can be mixed with the vehicles body colour.

End result, you have a superb finished product with the matching body colour. It is the product that all decent body shops are turning to these days.

It can be painted on and of course being U-pol you can be assured that it's a high quality product.

I wouldn't bother removing all the old paint (you'd have to go through the glassfibre to reach bare metal! :o ). Wirebrush the loose stuff off and brush coat it with Tetrosyl underbody sealant. When dry the coating is fairly thick and resilient and will help to absorb impact from road debris and prevent star cracking.

It may have been body coloured by the last owner, but I thought al SP's were painted black on the underbody, both mine were.
Owner since the 70's, Genghis is slightly to my left.

If you bought it from C&S in Malton recently it may be my old one. If so, I am happy to have a chat with you.

Hello Colin.

No it is not the one in C&S although I did look at it and I thought it was a nice car but they wanted £60K which I thought a bit over the top.

This one came from Huddersfield so you probably know it.

If it’s Keith’s old car, then you are a lucky man.
