Correct water temperature

Ok, that rarest of things, a baking hot day in Edinburgh when I had to drive V8 250 back down the A1. However the temperature needle sits closer to the hot ie right than the cool ie left. If you can visualise the word NORMAL on the face of the gauge then my needle is sitting over the 'A' when the ocd in me wishes it was more in the middle ie over the 'N'
Is this ok? Should I worry (only had car 2 weeks so still in anxious mode!) The coolant has just been changed
Thanks, Fergus

I wouldn’t worry too much. Hot days tend to make it climb a little. The thing to do is check the water level on a regular basis. If it runs over temp then it usually spits water out. If your not having to top up then it’s not running hot.

Colin,

My V8 generally sits around the N but can rise to O or R on hot days - 30°c+ - or if climbing hills. I would be very concerned if the temp started to get up to L.

If you are concerned about overheating always suspect the radiator first. When was it last flushed or better thoroughly cleaned.

Cheers
Michael

Previous owner had radiator recored just before I bought it. However, not sure I have huge faith in that given other things 'fixed' but weren't (at least not properly). Car is going in this week for new brake discs and pads all round, new fuel tank and general service so will get mechanic to check this out. I don't want my blood pressure getting as high as the radiator worrying about this as I have a couple of 3 hour drives coming up.
Thanks, Fergus
