Hello Michael,

An interesting thread.

Have to say the DMG website revamp has been very poor indeed, as far as potential customers searching for items is concerned. Personally I think the relaunch was far too early when very little had been achieved, it is somewhat better now but still not good enough by a long chalk.

Their old site was fine and they also provided a useful price list covering an extensive range of items. Who ever spearheaded the revamp has not done DMG any favours at all, I regret to say. They have certainly and unwittingly given SNG the upper hand - their website search provision is excellent, even if the prices do tend to be higher than DMG.

Perhaps the DLOC "powers-to-be" can enquire as to this shortcoming and ascertain when "we" will have a much better / comprehensive search engine in order to identify DMG parts. Bearing in mind the club and the company are inextricably linked it seems a prudent suggestion.

One thing I will say about DMG is that their customer service, advice and quality of packaging goods for despatch is light years ahead of competitors IMHO. They certainly remain my first port of call, but as mentioned above their website is wanting greatly at the moment.

Regards.

Richard.

Read this topic http://forum.dloc.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f ... res#p28328

The new website may have improved a bit, but at the time I said "The jagspares Dart section has only six items, but I discovered that you can see many more items through the search box. I got 136 items after a search for "float" ie for carburettor floats and seven items with a search for hubcaps. So try a search, but you have to get the right search description."

A search just now for brake pads got 339 items.
If you add the word Dart, like windscreen Dart, you get 12 products just for Darts.

Doesn't matter what you try there is nothing there...not really good enough. Wouldn't have happened when DM was in charge.
We requested a small consideration - a voucher or two - when we organised the 2018 National Rally, given that a lot of Aussies buy stuff from DM...we didn't get a response after two follow-ups.
Alas I fear profit rather than customer satisfaction is now the motivator.

Having been more than 30 years in IT I can't believe what happened to "jagspares". In my opinion a real disaster, but it looks like management is not interested in or aware of what is going on.
Under normal procedures the old site sits there untouched and serves the customers until the new thing is thoroughly tested and running bullet proof.
Then there is just one switch that needs to be turned and the new site goes live. If something bad happens you just flick the switch again and your back in save waters.
I'm afraid this looks more like an attempt by "highly professional people" to damage the business of DM.

Just a note on searching a website:
As search queries run against a database, most of the time of relational type, it's good practice to add a "%" sign to the search string.
So instead of typing "window" type "%window%" or "%window" or "window%".
The percentage sign acts as a wildcard and broadens the result set returned by the query. The query changes from being interpreted as ='window' to like '%window%'
The "%window% will then return not only "window" but "rear window" and "window sill" as well.

Just saw that the latest incarnation uses the "like ... style" query.

Hope this helps

I didn't know about the %...% trick. I've just tried a search for %window% and it came up with 219 items, including a lot for Darts.

I agree that the main pages with photographs are a disaster, but in many cases a search will get a reasonable selection.

Has anyone complained? I will next time I telephone to buy something.

I use the Dart parts Guide I downloaded on their download tab and searching for the part number with good success.

@John-B
The "%...%" trick stems from the SQL-Query Language
It was extremely effective when using the free text search on the old Manners web site.

By the way, it would be a good idea to change the link which points from the "home page" to the "forum" to explicitly use "https".

Thanks

I needed some steering parts and couldn't get any sense from their website so I gave them a ring, spoke to a very helpful man and the problem was sorted in 2 minutes.

They had all the parts I needed on the shelf.

So if anyone's interested, my advice would be to skip the website (for the time being) and speak to a person - the people there are alive & well even if the website isn't.
