Anyone got any thoughts on a replacement battery for an SP.
I know that modern batteries have a great many improvements since the SP was launched but I am not sure what to replace the failing battery in my SP with.
Steve.

Battery SP
Re: Battery SP
I got a 70A battery with the positive terminal on the left viewed from the nearside of the car as it's positioned in the engine, with the stub terminals for clamps.
I can't remember the make, but it came from KwikFit.
It's five years old and copes well with the current freezing weather even though I only use the car once a week.

Re: Battery SP
If you're a stickler for originality, original style batteries are still available from Lincon Batteries. I fitted their 242 battery which fits perfectly with the correct terminal type and position. After a few thousand miles I noticed the sealing pitch between the cells had cracked (possibly from overheating due to regulator failure?), so while I sorted it out I fitted a modern Powerline 249 from Tayna which fits well and has proved totally reliable.
Worth noting that if you have converted your car to negative earth, it may be convenient to choose a battery with the terminal positions swapped.

And if you're not a stickler for originality go for the Optima gel cell 'red top' battery. More expensive but they don't drain down with infrequent winter use. As used by the US military in their vehicles.

Re: Battery SP
Hello Steve,
I can fully endorse Nick's recommendation regarding Tanya Batteries; an excellent company with a superb range of decent battery options. Prices are very good, but they do charge p&p - the latter worth bearing in mind if you do intend to shop around.
https://www.tayna.co.uk/
One aspect of their website I like very much is their search options; be it size, brand, battery number plus other variants - you really can tie down the exact "make-up" of the battery you wish to achieve. All of this via their "car batteries" drop down box.
Another very useful search option {not immediately obvious} is their battery size table. To access this, just click in the box at the top of their page which says: enter search term here - do not put any info in, just click on the box and a dimension chart will appear; the rest you can work out from there. This drop down box also includes an option to look at previous customers battery choices, many indicate the exact vehicle model along with the battery reference number chosen, which is another useful asset. For example if you write in Daimler and press find, all the customer entries will be revealed.
As you can see, an excellent website..................... pity many others are not as clued up.
On a personal basis, I tend to go for Bosch or Enduroline depending upon the classic.
Hope the above assists ??
Good luck.
Richard.
