Is there anyone out there still on crossplies? I've never driven an SP on crossplies but I once had a P4 Rover which came with them fitted. I used them until worn and then switched to radials. While the radials had much more grip and didn't tramline like the crossplies the ride quality wasn't as good and the steering was heavier.

I looked at fitting crossplies about 20 years ago. The owner of my then local tyre shop (independent and good with classics) laughed and replied 'only if you want the bloody thing to steer itself'. I fitted Michelin XAS, and have stayed with them since.

I drove an A40 on crossplies as a daily driver for about seven years and they were fine. Tramlining was minimal and you soon get used to it. The only thing I did find was that they developed flat spots over the weekend so the first few yards on Monday morning were a bit bumpy until the tyres were round again!
