SP250 bumper mounts B type

Post by Zbigmak »

Can anyone help me.
I have a B type SP250.
I purchased the car without a front bumper but have recently purchased a stainless steel replacement. In addition I have located 2 cow horns.
Can any one show me a photo of how the bumper attaches to the chassis. I am wondering if I am missing a steel bar which fits behind the bumper. The service manual doesn’t not show the full front bumper in any detail.
Thanks
George

I'm afraid this picture is not very useful....

...but the item at the bottom is the bumper mounting bar. It has 2 inner holes for mounting to the 'cow horns' and two outer ones for attaching the bumper. Unfortunately the picture shows the bar from above but you can get an idea of the width from the two items at the top of the picture that are the mounting irons for the rear bumper. The bar is quite substantial and is made from steel approximately 6mm thick.

I'm sorry there are no dimensions but hopefully this will give you an idea of what you need. Maybe someone else will be able to provide you with more details.

Gentlemen thank you for your replies. I have a silly question to ask.
Am I correct in that the cow horns fit directly into the end of the chassis legs?
The cow horns I possess are from different vehicles and do not want to fit so when looking at the pictures provided is unclear that whether there is an adaptor or it is a direct fit.

Kev Monk documented his restoration in great detail on the old forum. I attach a picture showing one of the cowhorns fitted into the chassis. (the chassis is upside down) in case that helps.

O the challenge of restoring old cars.
Cow horns finally fitted having had to rebuild one.
The cow horns came from different places and first of all they would not fit into the end of the chassis legs then it was found that they were different.
One was an inch longer than the other the other had to have its cross section reduced in order to fit into the chassis leg.
Finally we managed to get 2 similar horns on the car but the bumper still does not line up.
I assume I now need to make up the sprung steel cross brace onto which the bumper is mounted.
Does anyone have approximate dimensions?

So the guessing game continues.
We have fitted the back bumper and the cow horns are in but:

Can any one tell me where where do the items marked no 1 go? They do not seem to fit anywhere. These came with the car. Initially we thought they where for the front bumper but the the curvature does not match :-(
Item 2 - From the photo supplied they seem to be box sections but we are guessing where they go or what are they for?
Item 3 - We are missing this item but it seems to be a simple piece of flat bar. Dimensions would be gratefully appreciated.

Items 2, They are engine mounts. Nothing to do with the bumpers.
Items 1 are rear bumper, they go inside the boot under the spare wheel cover.
Item 3 goes behind the front bumper and between the cow horns, a sort of back carrier bar.
Colin,
I may be slow but I’m rough as well !

Thank you very much.
We are slowly solving the bumper problem.
