V8-250 Saloon: Seat Frames

Post by classiclife »

Hello,

Can anyone confirm if the front seat frames (driver & pax) on a V8 saloon are the same be it a manual or auto car, please.

I am specifically interested in the seat base, as I know the seat cushion on the manual -v- auto is shaped slightly differently to facilitate gearstick movement and forward movement of the seats so as not to conflict with the gearstick.

If anyone has a photo of a MANUAL seat base frame minus the cushion, that will be super helpful !!

Thank you in advance.

Regards.

Richard.

Hi Richard,

I've attached some photos of a 1963 Daimler V8 automatic front seat frames side by side, both from above and underneath if that helps. As you can see from the photos they are very similar but slightly different. The main differences being:
Handles for the reclining mechanisms are on different sides.
Levers for the sliding mechanism, including the welded part at the front that the lever slides in are on different sides.

hope this helps
regards
Paul

Hello Paul,

Many thanks for your reply and the photos - very useful.

I was just about to reply to your trim post; will send an email with my phone number and we can discuss if you so wish - I have just completed a full retrim of my 1968 V8 saloon and as such may be able to assist.

Regards.

Hello,

Looking through the Daimler parts manual - specifically page 231 - it appears the seat base frame shape was different from the auto; you can see via the attached that mention is made to manual and auto along with different reference numbers.

With regret there are no line drawings, if anyone has a manual V8 saloon with a photo of the seat base and cushion removed I will be very interested to see the actual frame difference plus immensely grateful for your assistance.

Regards.

Richard.

Hello Richard,

I shall be attending to the Daimler in the workshop on the morrow..........if I can be bothered to cycle the 14 kms there with new battery in my rack mounted shopping basket in sunshine and back in the forecast driving wind and rain. Should the necessary enthusiasm prevail I shall make a snap or two of my hideously old, rusty and unrestored seat frames and post here in the evening.
Regards from a thundery Munich

Hello Richard,

Hope the pics help.

Thanks to you I took the opportunity to clean up the 53 year old muck and old grease off the sliders and re-grease, both seats slide wonderfully now, didn't get much else done mind you except to establish my battery was manufactured in the 29th week.....of 2007! ho hum off to battery dealer.

Hello Rob,

Many thanks for the reply and attached photos - your time and effort is very much appreciated.

The photos will help enormously to determine the difference between these and the auto frames.

I owe you a beer !!

Many thanks and good luck with the battery search.

Best wishes.

Hello Rob,

Mmmm, very interesting and I was not expecting your seat frame shape to be ident with my auto seat frame - this is encouraging.

Unless I am missing something the 2x attached photos of the manual & auto seat base frame look identical; albeit LHD and RHD.

Happy to be corrected if anyone can see something I am missing !!

This now makes me think it is only the seat foam shape and the cover that is trimmed differently; with the frame being identical.

Many thanks again Rob.

Regards.

Richard.
