Hi All,
The tread plates are screwed in place on my 64 sedan, Can any body advise what sort of finish they should have? Mine seem to have a dull diagonal lined finish. would they have had a polished finish or a satin finish?

Hello David,

The treadplates (stick down) on my late 68 V8 saloon have a matt / dull silver finish - the relief is a uniform set of 45 degree diagonal dashes with a space between each gap; in essence backward slash as you look at the plate.

See attached photo.

Hope that assists ??

Regards.

Richard.

I attach a photograph of a tread plate on my 64 saloon. It looks very similar to Richard’s. I have given the tread plates an occasional rub with chrome polish just to keep them clean, but I can’t say whether they were originally polished.

Thanks for the replies. It seems like they were a mat/ satin finish from the factory. I will try some very fine steel wool and metal polish.

Hello David,

May I suggest trying / testing that on the underside first, if it's an option to ensure the wire wool does not cut in to the plate too heavily.

Regards.

I believe the Jaguar treadplates are Stainless rather than the aluminium on the Daimler.

One could always get these from ebay
