When I bought my 250 It had a jerky change. I had the gearbox completely flushed and filled with the oil in the manual - ATF Suffix A . What a difference! I suspect that the viscosity of the oils after 1970 (Dextron) is different to the pre 70 oils and the pumps and valves then work at the wrong pressures or flows.

Good thought, Ian. I have plenty of spray bottles. Acetone is good stuff. Like most ketones it will completely disassemble the joints on an inflatable dinghy!
