My new Dart

Post by Bill Swizz »

This afternoon I took delivery of my new Dart.

It is a 1959 series 1 from the UK and RHD and is now out here in the Basel area of Switzerland.

I first saw a Dart when I was in my teens or perhaps 20s growing up in Cambridge and have considered getting one on and off ever since and have finally got one.

It's not yet registered here in Switzerland so it'll be a little while before I can take it out which will be a frustrating time I'm sure.

I'm sure I'll have more questions than my current ones such as how do I unlock the glove box, or lock the boot. I guess I'm missing a key, and does the boot always smell of petrol.

Looking forward to my first drive

Bill

Welcome to the forum and welcome to the joys of driving a Dart. :D

Yes, you need a key which is different from the ignition key. I got keys from https://www.replacementkeys.co.uk/vehicle/classic-car/ beginning with FP. Is there a number on the locks?

Many people say they can smell petrol in the boot and you should do a search on this forum or the archived old forum for possible causes. A search for search.php?st=0&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&keyw ... ll+in+boot produces six posts.

Hi Bill
you have another SP250 owner in Basel - Hans Hebel (heh101353 on here) he's a very friendly guy and I'm sure he'd be delighted to help you familiarise yourself with your new SP.

Enjoy the car, hope it's not too long before you get the paperwork arranged.

Welcome to the Forum!

regards, John

Thank you for the welcome.

I've been in touch with Hans who has already provided advice on insurance and a local mechanic who is familiar with the SP250. Hopefully we will meet up in the next little while and he can let me know about the quirks and foibles of Darts.

I think the paperwork will take a week or two to finalise which is going to be a frustrating wait knowing the Dart is tucked up in the garage but I can't go for a drive.

Thank you for the information on the keys, I'll get onto that straight away as having a locked glove box and an unlocked boot is not ideal, I'll also need to get a new ignition key as I only have 1. I'll spend the time before I can drive the car looking at sorting any obvious issues and the smell in the boot if possible.

Thanks everyone

Bill.
