Thanks for your comments tjt77 and interestingly the water drip has returned! (more later)

However the car now runs beautifully did about 15 miles in it today.. The carbs were rebuilt with Burlen Kits just before the Russ Carpenter overhaul and rebalanced and tuned by him. The carb overflow I am sure is a red herring and could also be caused by a miniiscule partcle that has transgressed the fuel filter but jammed the needle valve. Whatever has not recurred in over 150 miles.

I am sure the latest problems only relate to detritus in the fuel tank which was disturbed by fairly rapid fill at petrol station in virtually empty tank. Now that detritus has settled problem has disappeared. However obviously must do something about it and will siphon drain tank into jerry cans and then flush with thinners via drain plug (If i can undo it and its not rusted in!).

A lady who lives round the corner has a superb orange 1973 VW Beetle. Having not started the car for 4/5 months she found that it would not start. Called out local Classic car specialist who found no fuel coming through, "empty tank Ma'am" says he and puts in 5 litres from can and car starts. Strange thought the owner as thought I filled it up late last year? (The beetle does not have fuel guage). So off she goes to filling station but finds it will only take another 5 litres! Drives car immedately to Specialist who finds "last years" petrol had deteriorated into a gelatinous slob. He drains and steam cleans tank.

I reckon i've got a similar problem but on a smaller scale.

Water drip- it does continue. The water is cold - not even warm! It emanates from the subframe member at the front of the passenger footwell at the point at which the LH/NS exhaust descends to that level - need to jack up to investgate further
