Thanks everyone for your comments. You have narrowed the problem down to two things. It's either a map light supply or the previous owner has fitted a coil cut out switch, so the wires could be redundant. When I refit the dash, I now know where to look.

Hi,
99% certain it is the wiring for the map light, easy way to test connect a bulb between these wires (blacks are earth), switch on sidelights and switch on the map light switch. You should if the connectivity is correct get the bulb to light.
