I noticed in the workshop manual there is a picture of the oil pump which shows an oil seal supposed to be fitted between the rear bearing cap and the engine block.
Photo is attached.
Also attached are pics of
the transfer port drilling through the rear bearing cap next to the block.
and
the corresponding drilled hole (0.5 inch) for oil into the engine block.
I can’t find any mention of the O seal in the parts catalogue; anyone met this before ?
There is no recess to locate a seal, is it a necessary part ?
Any comments welcome pl. Tks.

PS Ref Oil pressure relief topic; the floating/spring loaded plunger in my early Dart engine does not have a small bleed hole drilled through, but a ‘later V8250’ pump I checked does have.

In my logic, seal 'J' would be used on the feed hole to the block as you have identified but you would need a rebate for it to sit in as its a machined mating surface so I would be omitting it , unfortunately I cant get to my block at the moment to see what I have to compare so it may be a good idea to have a word with Russ Carpenter I recon he's built one or two so would be one of the best to ask for good pointers to get you going.

Morning John, Thanks for the reply, I think you are right that the seal would usually have a recessed shoulder to locate it.
I wonder about the possible purpose as the position between the block face and the lower bearing cap face suggests a concern that oil pressure might force oil between the two flat surfaces.
It seems a possible but unlikely flow path when compared to the easier oil flow elsewhere through bearings or the route to the sump via the relief valve.
I have since bolted up the cap and attached the oil pump ( which only uses a paper gasket to seal the interface of the pump with the outer surface of the bearing cap), so I think I'll go without an O ring.
