SP 250 Hand brake

Post by Warsash 2 »

Hi
Margaret's Dart is due it's MOT and one of the hand brake pads had worn badly. The rest of the pads have plenty of life left in them. I was amazed at the cost of replacement being around 100 pounds for a set. I am not sure what caused the wear of the inside pad. Any ideas?
Regards
Colin

Unbalanced wear on the handbrake pads is usually due to the caliper not being centralised about the disc. While you're changing them it's worth checking this and if necessary unbolting the caliper to add or remove shims.

Whatever you do don't throw away the old pads - they can be relined.

I had a set of pads re-lined about 2 years ago, at a local company. From memory I paid £5 per pad.

I would like to know too. Can't understand why they cost so much - they are tiny and don't exactly do much work!
