Heat / sound insulation material SP250

Post by JimL »

I have the SP250 gearbox cover out and would like to lag it externally with a thin heat and sound insulating material that would stick to the roughish fibreglass surface of the cover.
Please can anyone recommend a UK supplied material that would best suit the job. I note there are quite a few types advertised on e-bay but not sure which may best suit the job.
Also looking for advise on the way to seal the gearbox cover to the floor, not too keen to use 'Dum Dum' paste as it's rather messy stuff
Thanks, Jim L.

Not cheap but it does the job.

I sealed my gearbox cover to the floor with something like this.

Jay Leno recommended Dynamat, see his video:

There may be a delay at the start with out of focus shots, but wait for it to improve.

I obtained the Dynaliner from a local auto sound store. It is a easy installation of simply "peep and stick" using a box cutter to do around the seat rails. I did it last fall before having the new carpets installed and can vouch that the footwells are cooler this season.

Just testing the YouTube BBCode which has been installed. Use the small arrow at the right end of the BB codes above the text input window which opens a popup.
On YouTube page use "Copy video URL" and then insert URL in the format https://youtu.be/ ... in the popup window.

Jay Leno mentions Dynamat. Notice, HE CAN'T SPELL DAIMLER

Hi Jim,
Having looked at the cost of the dedicated Dynamat type insulation I have very successfully used good old B&Q insulation material. Much thinner than the professional stuff but value for money. Only 1/8"-3/16" thick, two layers of foil and insulation, so fits comfortably under the mat.
