Bryan Purves seats

Post by Paulkennedy »

I know I have seen on this forum articles about SP new leather seat covers. Bryan's name has been mentioned in this respect, what is the quality like and how easy are they to fit and make a respectable job of. Also comments on fitting the back seat replacement please. Our present seats are good but the dye keeps coming out when the weather is hot and we are getting a bit sweaty and sticking to the seats, as on the SP day, this does not go down well with HID.
Thanks, Paul Kennedy

When Roy Hitchman of Abbey Classic Cars was fitting the trim to the rear set he found that the transmission tunnel was lower than the vertical trim allowed and there was a gap, which may have been that the trim was designed for a later SP250 version whereas mine is a 1959 A-spec.

I think he got all the interior trim from Bryan Purves, but I'm not sure. Anyway it's a question to be asked - is the rear seat footwell vertical trim over the transmission tunnel going to fit?

Roy managed to stretch it a sew it so that the discrepancy is hardly noticed. Not many people look down there

I must admit that I sit on an old towel and have an old shirt over the seat back, but it's more to keep the new leather clean than because I get sweaty. My seats have lost the smell of new leather now, which is a pity. I wonder if there is a leather-smell spray available ?

A good thing is to use Connoly's Hide Food. This leaves the car with a lovely leather smell.
