Guys,
I'm reading this thread with interest.

I'm all in favour of sharing info, BUT I don't want my body number, chassis number, engine number, gearbox number etc etc etc published in the Internet. I trust the forum users, but this is an open Forum. ANYONE can read this.

I've freely given Laurence ( & Christian Demler ) Info about my cars. Laurence told me I had the wrong engine & checked, there's another dart out there, with my engine & I have his. They got swapped sometime before 1976 ... so what. I don't have a "matching numbers car" so what.

But I don't want somebody to take a bodyshell ( I have 3 + my "car" ) & a Chassis ( I have 2 + my "car" ) & engine ( I have 2 + my "car" ) etc etc & build a second copy of "my car".

For your Info. My "A" spec ( in pasSPort ) is Body # 737-0126 Has scallops, bonnet & boot bracing, 0-60 oil pressure gauge & HAD a "lightweight" Body ( It might not be light now with all my mods !! )

I'm sure there are other threads out there with info in them, but the last post here => http://archive.dloc.co.uk/forum/topic.a ... hichpage=2 gives the highest body number known with Scallops ( then )

Well thanks Colin [Warsadh] but the question remains unanswered about the times/chassis numbers of the mods.

I have looked in pasSPort and cannot see yours, or your wife's car, listed so don't know their chassis numbers and consequently don't know if they have the mods or not.

So far, all I have confirmed is that the mods happened some time after 100587 was made.

Does anyone know if the cars went down the line in chassis no, for instance MG stamped the chassis as it joined the line but as the number on our chassis is on a welded on plate maybe the chassis where stock piled and taken in a random number?

Is there any correlation between chassis numbers and engine or body numbers ? or is it just hap hazard?

Thanks Steve,

It isn't clear which of your cars you refer to as you have two chassis in the pasSPort: 1**7** & 1**6** . i.e one very similar to John-B's and the other one made about 30 or so cars later.
Regardless, what you say tells us the old designs went as far as one of them, and all the changes must have happened after that.

So, it may help further this if you could advise us about your later car's various production features as that is made after John-B's car.

Best wishes

David

Hi David, ( & anyone else reading this ) This is 100612 which my mum bought in 1976. My dad & Ian Slade worked on this in the late 70's & I am rebuilding it after 30 years of storage in a damp barn. I think it will take me 30 years to finish it !
dart_with_screen.jpg
Before the restoration it was pretty much as we bought it in 1976. scallops, boot/bonnet bracing, 0-60 gauge, lightweight body, no stainless trim around the side windows/door hinges, NO padding in the dash, no knee padding under the dash. I'm also sure this had chromed windsreen vents from new.

This is 100550 ( listed in pasSPort )
I bought it like this ( Note the lovely bonnet mod & lack of sidelight mouldings ) It came from Texas, via Germany, then to the UK & back to Germany, with a complete & very good Chassis, papers. 2 left doors, a boot lid & not a lot else ! ... but I had or have sourced most other parts.
I assume it left the factory with 1 door for each side !
dart_us_mods_bonnet.jpg
This is my 3rd "known dart" ( Not under my name in PasSport, but in pasSPort ... I'll give you a clue 100112). This one came with half a Chassis ( everything is missing aft of the engine bay .... but what is there is very solid ) , papers, 2 A spec doors, an A spec boot & an A spec bonnet. I only bought it because I wanted the 2 A spec doors .....

Unfortunately, someone cut 100112 into 2 halves before I got it.

So 100550 & 100112 are now stored like this
one_and_half_darts.jpg
The back end of 100112 is stored elsewhere.

I also have another complete Body Shell ( unidentifiable - no papers or body tag ) which is cut into small sections ( to fit in a Volvo estate ! ) & an unidentifed Chassis in the UK at my sisters ( Missing the section between the 2 front legs !! ... put that with the half a Chassis I have above & hey presto I have a complete Chassis !!) & a pile of other doors, Bonnets & boot lids ......

I have a grand total of 2 gearbox tunnels ... one for the cream car & one I intend making a mold from.

This is why I secretly grin, when People discuss how many Darts have survived. I have 4 bodies. 3 identifiable. I can only guarantee that 1 will ever run again.

I'd like to put 100550 on the race track ( I'm slowly collecting parts for it -Steve if you read this I want the TR6 stub axles ... give me a price !) but I might be 80 before that happens.

The Australian SP250 Register listed above, is a record of the cars that came to Australia, both originally and subsequently imported by individuals. There are some cars on the record which have now also been exported but have Aust history so are still recorded.

WOW Steve, that's a fine collection!

What a pity you can't use an ICI fibre for the upholstery.

I wonder if 100112 is going to be a matching trailer in the long term? I have seen them in Mk1 Cortina, Mini and Morris 1000 guises, there ia a Fiat 500 one going round too, I think such a device really would suit a Dart nicely, .... for English trips?

Or is that just too far ahead.

Hi David,
Yes, that is one of the options I have considered with the body shell. The "problem" is that it is an early "A" spec & I'm sure someone will be looking for a backend oneday. ( I already had some interest in the front end )

Also, I don't want a towbar on the back of the Dart. But a Dart trailer behind my Espace, would look good

It'll just collect dust until I make up my mind.

I have chassis number 104110 which I can confirm is a B spec - at least I think that is what it says on the invoice.

I really should have a look at the body number.
