Conquest split collets
I'm finally getting my valves back in the head and noticed that however carefully I place the collets on the valve stem (ensuring the gaps are equal) as soon as I release the pressure on the spring to hold everything in place the collets end up touching on one side and there is a big gap on the other side. So my question is does it matter or should I keep fiddling until I have a gap on both sides? I'm assuming that the gaps allow for expansion when hot so will they sort themselves out or cause a problem? All parts are well lubricated on assembly.

I can't see it being a problem. I would be concerned if they touched at both ends which would suggest them being the wrong ones.

Thanks Marcel, my only concern is that if they are touching at all they won't be able to expand under valve spring pressure? I will slacken them all off again and try to get an equitable gap.

So they will sort themselves out when they expand due to heat despite being held in tight by the spring? If so I will leave them.
