Wouldn't restoring it be risking destroying a piece of history? I can understand why the owner has left it as it is.

I'm delighted to hear that the identity of this car has been confirmed.

Sorry if my earlier comments have aroused criticism, but I thought that cars were made to be used and if possible enjoyed, not left to slowly rot in a barn or other outhouse. Part of the process of using and enjoying is maintaining a car so that it remains in a useable state, if not brand new. I'm not one to favour immaculate restorations that don't envisage regular use, but nor do I think that it is right to let nature reduce a car to a pile of rust and mould without any human intervention somewhwere along the line. The current fashion for and popularity of "barn find" cars surely doesn't justify such a dreadful lack of care. We've seen too many old Daimlers that have been left to deteriorate because the custodian thinks the vehicle has a worth far beyond its actual market value.

Better surely to let the vehicle go to someone who will cherish and use it sympathetically than hoard it until it is beyond economic rescue. It is via the former wise route that I had the good fortune to acquire a Hooper Century, with all credit to the former owner who kindly gave me first refusal once he knew I might be interested.

Darren, I wish you luck, this is an extremely worthwhile challenge; one could hardly wish for a more interesting model to pursue.

Regards

Geoff

I think the problem with a car like this is that it wasn't made to be driven and enjoyed in the usual sense, it was made as a one-off showpiece, which must make restoration extremely challenging. Fair enough if you have a large fortune to throw at it, you could almost certainly return it to its former glory, but then what do you do with it?
