One 0 Four Handbrake (the saga continues)

Post by theoldman »

Well, you'll be pleased to know I have had success at long, long, last.

Having tried everything, I was working the hand brake rod with the usual screwdriver, when I noticed, by chance, the actuating wedges were going out "on the huh".

This was fine while the drum was off, but obviously (to me anyway!) they were jamming "out" with the drums on.

I assumed that through 60 years of operation, they had worn on the side which takes most of the pressure.

Dismantled the units and then swopped the wedges over, top to bottom. so a "fresh" face was taking the pressure.

A good ckean, lots of semi - liquid grease and bingo - we now have a handbrake which returns to "off" on the instruction of the lever!!!

It's only taken 2 years plus.......................

I further noticed that the older you get, the longer it seems to take to do these sort of jobs..............................

If at first you don't succeed........

Well done Neil, I have also found that if you look at a problem long enough and narrow it down you find the answer.
