Dear experts
In the last few months, I stumbled over about 5 adverts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland of 1944, 48, 49 DB 18 saloons. They all have the same refurbished interior in white leather. Outside they are painted white over black or white over marron. And they have all been refurbished in Poland according to the current sellers.
A picture and a link of the most recent example are attached.
Does anybody know more about these cars and where and by whom they have been refurbished?
I also asked myself whether it could be the same car but I doubt. There are some differences in the details of the dash, radiator cap etc.
I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Best regards
Beat

Re: Several Daimler DB 18 Saloon refurbished in Poland
Hi Beat
Seems a bit suspicious to me. They just aren't that common. You mention 1944, 48 and 49 - well there were none built in 1944 as production didn't restart untill 1947.
Looking at the interior, it's definitely aimed at the wedding car market as they were never ever white inside!
It will be very interesting to find out where they are restored as i could do with some work on mine!
I'd also add that it's massively over-priced - and I'm sayng that as a DB18 owner, I'd love them to be worth that but they just aren't.
Best regards
Graham

Hi Graham
Thanks for your reply. I fully share your view.
I am in contact with the seller of the latest advert and asked him where the car was restored. I will keep you posted.
What concerns me most is the fact that all cars seem to have been restored around 2013 or 2014 and are for sale again by their German, Swiss or Austrian owners. The Austrian owner told me that he just had the engine restored. My bad faith suspect is that the current owners were impressed by the nice looking but in the meantime are frustrated by technical Problems. Therefore the cars are for sale again.
Besides, here is another one. This time a Consort but the same interior colour and structure of the seats.

"1944" is in my view a clear wrong indication by the seller who anyway told me a rather weared story.
Best regards

WOW that one does look exceptional, Beat. I'm not sure about the colours but it's certainly well presented.
And that's a better price too, if the mechanicals are in order then that's about right.
As you say there are reservations about the mechanicals so caution is needed.
However most of the mechanicals are available and reasonably priced so it can be put right.
Yes please keep us posted!
Best Regards

Re: Several Daimler DB 18 Saloon refurbished in Poland
Oh Dear.
I have to add this one, publicised today on the Classic Jaguars & Daimlers 1931 to 1970 Facebook page
http://www.tutti.ch/zuerich/fahrzeuge/a ... 487532.htm
There just can't be this many DB18s available, they just aren't that common.
Unless of course somebody has been hoarding them? No let's be sensible, it must be a scam, I just can't work it out.

Re: Several Daimler DB 18 Saloon refurbished in Poland
The white Consort is for sale for quite a long time in Germany. See:
http://ww3.autoscout24.de/classified/28 ... owcase=A_N
Please note the considerable price difference in Swiss Francs and Euros.
Looking at the colour and structure of the seats, it must also come from the same Polish source. And again mechanics seem to be the problem with this car.
So this seems to be the scheme:
Take a DB18 or Consort and refurbish the body and paint as well as the interior including new leather trim. Neglect the mechanics and re-sell it on the German speaking part of Europe with a good margin.
I just wonder where this series of early DB 18 with the detached lights has been sourced from.
Best regards
Beat

Re: Several Daimler DB 18 Saloon refurbished in Poland
they were all purchased on ebay in the UK between June 2010 and October 2012 and were discussed at the time on the old forum (see my previous post for details)Beat Weibel wrote:I just wonder where this series of early DB 18 with the detached lights has been sourced from.
