Good point! One of the more modern cars I briefly owned (I think it was a Citroen Zsara - don't ask) developed a noticeable drop in power and acceleration. After much head scratching (not much else that can be done with ECU controlled cars) I discovered that the mat had crept up and was impeding the accelerator's downward travel!

Hello everybody,

So, the problem is still present !

To Graham, I drained the gearbox (the level was correct) and refilled it with SAE 30 oil.

To Keith, I pumped 30 times for each gear.

To Mark, I burned the carpet. No, I'm joking but the problem doesn't come from that unfortunately.

To Nick, I adjusted the toggle action.

To Theoldman, I didn't adjusted the rod because I'm sure to understand the way to do it !!

Sometimes, when I fully pressed on the gear change pedal, this pedal do not come back to its initial position. Any idea ? And I noticed too that when I engage the top speed gear, the selection lever scrapes on the dashboard...

Thank you for your help.

Julian

OK Neil... My English is probably the cause of my misunderstanding !

Thanks

Regarding the pedal not returning to the original position, this may not be a fault as the pedal has different heights depending on the gear selected. It will be 5-6 centimetres difference from highest to lowest.Hope this helps.

Good afternoon,

Problem solved !

There is a part that is used for a hinge between the different rods controlling the gear selection. This hinge is fixed to the frame of the car by a heavy fastener (see drawing). This fastener was twisted so that the hinge was no more "in line". I removed this fastener, "untwisted" it and got in.

No more gear selection problem. This gearbox is once again a pleasure to drive.

Thank you for all your advices.

See you probably soon...

Is the selector lever away from the dash in top gear now? Mine is a good distance away from wood work.

Good evening John,

That's a good remark ! Thank you. The answer is no ! The selector lever still touches the wooden dashboard in top gear. I don't know if I should change something or not. Everything seems to work perfectly so...

What do you think ?

Regards,

Julian
