It is (was) my grandmother's Daimler but is it a Rye Cabriolet or an Abbott circa 1935?
Look at the photos of a Rye Cabriolet and Abbott in these links: http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/prewar-daimler.htm
http://www.angliacarauctions.co.uk/en/c ... ed-abbott/
Although my grandmother's Daimler has no spare wheel in the near-side wing there is a space for it. The spare wheel is fixed on the boot.

Re: Rye Cabriolet or Abbott?
if I had to choose between the two I would say Rye Cabriolet as the cutaway from body to hood is similar to the one on first link but not the same as the Abbott
having shown a friend the photos we are under the opinion that its a fairly standard late 1935 offering from Mulliners (Birmingham) and that its a DHC not a Cabriolet
And would say similar to this one at DLOC International Rally at Ross-on-Wye June 2009 and this that was for sale last year which I am told a member of the old forum purchased

Re: Rye Cabriolet or Abbott?
No-one has mentioned it but the Rye bodt was built by Martin Walter the Coachbuilders in Folkestone, Kent. They used the names of local villages in Kent fora lot of their models.
Re: Rye Cabriolet or Abbott?
This month's March DM has photos of a 1935 Mulliner 15 DHC which is identical to the Rye Cabriolet as far as I can see, so I'm still not sure what body my grandmother's Daimler had.

Re: Rye Cabriolet or Abbott?
I have consulted Mr Philpot, and he states that the car is 100% a Mulliners (Birmingham) DHC
