Oh no.......OK

Post by John Davis »

I started the Conquest to move it yesterday, and it had a misfire which sounded just like a burned valve or piston. Oh no, I thought, head off etc. And it had been running so smoothly! But then I did a compression test -and all six were over 140, which for a low compression engine is good. All plugs firing well, valves all moving, clearances ok, both float chambers full.

Where next?

Then I noticed, when putting back the rear carb float chamber cover, the vacuum pipe operating the screen wash was off. Slid it back on - instant cure! Instant Relief!

When I was an apprentice, and had taken a whole machine apart for a fault that turned out to be external, a very good mechanic told me - 'Look for the obvious first, dumbo'.
