Neil

Strict Conquest valve seats also hardened, something else of which I was unaware, thank you very much!

Cheers

Yes, Dave, the DB series engines all had hard iron alloy seats expanded in to the head.

Thanks Neil. I thought all the engines were the same but then saw comments about alloy heads and Century engines being different I suddenly had doubts.

I suspect my Conquest has dropped an exhaust valve at some time and broken a push rod. Number one exhaust push rod is non original (it has been engineered) and the corresponding valve has burnt a different colour to all the other valves (a very light biscuity colour rather than black like the others). My conclusion is that the replacement valve is either made from a slightly different material or has been subjected to a different hardening process. Has anyone else experienced this? Are replacement valves made to the same quality and should I be concerned?
