Mk 1 Conquest Reflectors

Post by Pendle »

Both of my Mk 1 Conquests have reflectors mounted under the tail lights. I have also seen photographs of many other Conquests with similar reflectors. The clear plastic cones on the reflectors of one of my cars are not in good condition (clouded and cracked). I just had a look in the parts manual and could not find the reflectors. The owners manual illustrations re: tail lights also do not show reflectors. Does anyone know if these reflectors were original equipment or an aftermarket item? Has anyone had success in refurbishing them? Are parts available?

Thank you

Are they the same as the reflectors for the Conquest New Drophead Coupe? If so they are available from SCparts as they are fitted on the Austin Healey - I bought a pair a couple of years ago

Michael,

They are similar, but with a clear lens. Diameter of chrome base is 2 inches.

My NDHC has plain, flat reflectors with chrome surrounds - it is possible that these may just be missing the conical lenses.

The Lucas parts list for the 50's lists RER7 (Lucas part 57072A) reflectors with conical covers for several Daimlers including the 1955 Conquest Saloon (not other years), Roadster and drophead Coupe for 1955-57, Empress, Regency and Regina for 1955. I do not know if this is correct or if they were fitted to all cars. I have seen conical covers in several shades milky white, amber, red on old cars but haven't seen other colours available for sale. I think the cone shape works well with the DJ254 as it reflects the styling cues.

The lenses cleaned up quite nicely. I sanded them with 1000 and 1500 grit sandpaper, and then polished them with two grades of polish.
