DQ450 windscreen washer

Post by JDB »

From the workshop manual "Push button (marked 'washer') and release immediately when the washer should operate at once and continue to operate for approximately seven seconds."

I wish I'd read that before I changed two washer buttons for "sticking"!

All is not lost! I shall file that snippet away in the little grey cells and remember it when I'm trying to puzzle out why my button is "sticking".

In my defence, it never used to do it and the washer bottle section is not where I think it ought to be in the manual!

I think they called it a one shot washer system which generally worked well - why don't they have it now!

As with all things "Majestic Major" this subject seems to be less straightforward than it first appeared. The earlier DQs have the "one shot" washer system, using a Lucas 2SJ bottle, with 3 connections to the motor, this is what I have (for anyone desperate to know how it works there's an explanation here: http://forum.etypeuk.com/viewtopic.php? ... 14a4b79623 about 1/2 way down). The later cars have something different, probably a 5SJ, which has a plastic bottle rather than glass and 2 connections to the motor. The 2SJ model uses a pump with a remote impeller housed at the bottom of a brass tube in a plastic reservoir, which is immersed in the washer fluid. The plastic reservoir on mine has gone very brittle and is a bit damaged, I have bodged a repair but in the long term may have to replace it with something else.
