daimler 15 starter motor

Post by Db n j »

Can anyone help with the details for a 1935 Dailmer 15.

What Type / Model etc, and if it was fitted to any other more common model

Thanks

(or a servicable unit for sale)

I don't have full details available right now but I know mine (1934) was a Rotax unit 3.5 inch diameter. They are very similar to several other models and I had mine rebuilt by these guys who are very knowledgeable:

I'll look up my Lucas lists later once I'm back home, unless someone beats me to it.In advance of that though, maybe worth saying that Lucas/Rotax units have a 'general'type e.g. M35, M45G ( 3 1/2" and 4 1/2" diameter respectively) but it's the 6 digit code stamped in the casing that really matters. This is the specific model for the car in question and will include the pinion, any shaft extensions and fitting/connection details. So, if it's an M35, that basic designation will fit lots of things but the details will differ considerably.

My local stockist has recon units on the shelf. They are modified to be 4 brush units to reduce the wear caused by the 2 brush original design.

1933 and 1934 M35A /0 M4/0

1935 and 1936 M35A/0 BS5/1

Both are specific to Daimler 15s, I've been through the list and they were fitted to nothing else, although the core of the M35 unit is common to all M35s. The original armature was a 250,072 and the field coils were 250,036, common parts to many. The pinion and sleeve are the specific bits, 250,116.
