Daimler V4.5 (1937) looking for keys, rims, ....

Post by michelle »

Dear all,

I'm wondering if someone could help me locate addresses for the following parts for a 1937 Daimler Straight Eight by Hooper.

I'm looking for :
  • new period correct keys (have only one set)
  • a good place to have a rim repaired
Keys:

I have found a company which offers the same looking keys but they told me right away that they only have/offer keys for Rolls Royce and Bentley.

Rims:

I have located a couple companies in the UK who do repair rims. I was wondering if any of you has experience with one of the known rim specialists.

Here are a few pics of the damaged rim:

Any input is highly welcome.

Hi Michele,
A friend of mine has some wheels as a spare for his Str8.
I will ask him if he will part with one.
Sad about keys. Have been to Jaguar Soares Day two weeks ago and there was. Stall holder who had plenty of old keys.
We bought all the keys for our cars.

If the RR keys look the same, ie the same profile, could you get blanks and have them cut at a local key shop?

A few years ago when I had inflicted a 20/25 Rolls on myself I needed a key like these. A more specialist lock firm round here showed me their key blank catalogue and there was indeed the right one. However, I think the minimum order was 20 or 50 blanks which they didn't want to buy in. It ran in my mind that Fiennes had them but I had a look at their website quickly but I didn't find this type, but they might be worth a try . However, if a trader has stocks of them then they'll be worth finding as they weren't fitted to anything mass market and their sales must be pretty limited. Not just as handy as MRN 1-50 !

The key looks very much like mine (although not the same car). I also only have one key. I tried a few years back to get a spare. I did eventually find someone who would cut one but it involved me sending it to him. I was worried about losing it all together. Then I decided just to leave it in place all the time? Mine is hidden behind the dash so unless you know it’s there you wouldn’t easily find it. Is it the same with your car? Furthermore, I have installed a battery master switch which in my case is discreetly under the rear seat. It is this key I remove when I leave the car unattended.

Yes indeed they look exactly the same but the dealer where I found the blank keys just shut me up telling me they were only doing Rolls Royce and Bentley. My intention was to acquire blank ones and have 'em cut locally.

Here is the place where I found blank ones: https://www.introcar.co.uk/keys

Well the idea is to have a correct second pair. I have never lost a key from one of my cars since I do have a driving license. It's just a nice have to. And a security in the case where it should happen.
My Straight Eight is also featuring a hidden master switch.

Dear Chris,
I would be really pleased if you could ask your friend if he might be willing to sell his spar wheels for the Straight 8.
Plz keep me updated.
Michelle
